A Dog's Life

Do you plan your weekends, your holidays, heck, even your life around your four-legged best friend? Yep, we get it. And, lucky for you so do a lot of the venues in Eastside. Cafes, restaurants and bars, even our retail stores are throwing out the welcome mat for you and your puppy. Pretty much anywhere with outdoor seating is good to go and a pub courtyard is a bonus! Here’s a list of our top dog friendly hangs …..

In Surry Hills THE CARRINGTON not only welcomes you and your pup, but even has a dog-friendly menu with $5 dog meals every day! THE BERESFORD has a spacious courtyard just perfect for doggie hangs and has been known to host a dog fashion parade or two as well. THE CLOCK has just announced that pooches are welcome everyday all day in all areas except for balcony level.

In Darlinghurst the DARLO BAR proudly proclaims itself to be “pooch friendly”, has a puppy Wall of Fame up by the bar and even hosts a regular Doggos of Darlo on the rooftop (November 9th is the next one and they will be fundraising for Pets in the Park, a fantastic local organisation that cares for pets owned by people that are homeless). Lots of hidden courtyards make dog day afternoons enticing, with Black Bottle’s bonus amazingly cheap happy hour an added attraction and of course a Hair of the Dog is de rigeur at Bloody Marys

THE TAPHOUSE allows dogs all over the venue and that includes the cult cinema running on the rooftop garden during spring (tho’ best to keep Fido away from the resident ghost on Level 2!) THE EAST VILLAGE has plenty of outside seating plus dogs allowed in the main bar too.

In Potts Point both The GAZEBO and CAFE GIORGIO by the fountain welcome pooches, with The Gazebo offering a special canine meal of ‘doggie mince meat shuffle, rice and gravy’. Outside Girogio’s your pup can watch the world go by to his hearts content. Around the corner, HONKAS also has a massive courtyard with plenty of space for the whole gang.

In Woolloomooloo there’s a multitude of outdoor dining - restaurants and upmarket pubs, as well as the world famous food truck HARRY’S CAFE de WHEELS where you can buy a pie floater or a pastie and sit by the water, a stone’s throw from the Navy base and whichever fleet happens to be in town.

Both THE FRISCO and THE TILBURY have proclaimed themselves dog friendly with plenty of outdoor seating to soak up the sunshine with your pooch by your side. At THE OLD FITZ there’s outdoor seating and dogs are also allowed inside, where an open fire in winter makes it cosy and inviting.

In Rushcutters Bay two local’s secret destinations worth knowing are the THE STOREHOUSE and The CRUISING YACHT CLUB CYC AUSTRALIA - every sailor needs an old sea dog by his side right?! And of course the 2 cafes in Rushcutters Park are dog friendly and even sell old tennis balls if you’re caught out without one.

Whatever your plans, there’s no need to spend the weekend without your best friend in tow.
