All things spooky coming up this week, with Halloween on Thursday and Mexico’s Day of the Dead, which seems to have gone totally mainstream, on Saturday. Halloween feels like it’s one for the kids and ‘Día de Muertos’ seems a bit more for the grown-ups, although that could be the cocktail-over-candy vibe you get from this particular celebratory day. Whichever way you want to go this week, Eastside has it sorted. Read on for our fav Mex eateries and a tip in the make-up stakes too.
CHULA
If you’re looking for some Mexican vibes in Eastside Sydney you cannot go past the sleek, modern but totally authentic CHULA in Bayswater Rd. Its been called the Best Mexican in town and with their fresh food menu and sophisticated cocktails we tend to agree. No Tex Mex or frozen margarita mix here!
At BAD HOMBRES in Reservoir St, the menu is all vegan - good food, a clear conscience and funky tunes rule in this taqueria-style discotheque! Still in Surry Hills, down the hill on Foveaux EL LOCO at EXCELSIOR serves up tacos, salads & margaritas in a colourful late-night hangout that also has weekend DJ sets.
Over in Five Ways Paddington an old terrace houses the whimsically named TEQUILA MOCKINGBIRD whose mix and match menu is inspired by South American wanderlust, combining the tastes of Latin America with the modern Australian kitchen.
