DIY Vivid

Sydney’s first ever isolation illumination event #DIYVivid is the brainchild of Sydney comedian and Vivid festival die-hard fan James Breko who, when this year’s Vivid Festival was Covid-cancelled, instead of getting sad, decided to get Lit!

Breko says, “Even though we are all dealing with the challenges of iso-life, we are still connected, and together we can shine through this tough time.”

The countdown is on to the start of #DIYVivid, with the big switch happening at 7pm on Friday May 22 . Balconies, apartment blocks, streets and suburbs will sparkle as we are encouraged to dust off the festive lights and decorate our homes, bringing the community together and showing the world: the lights are still on down under!

#DIYVivid will run every evening for two weeks from 7pm Friday May 22 until Friday June 5, mirroring the dates of the world-famous festival of light that inspired the event.

“The idea of busting out that box of fairy lights or making your own decorations at home, is something everyone can be part of, and the more people who join in, the more we can make the Sydney sparkle.”

It’s easy to be part of #DIYVivid, just join the Facebook event at diyvivid.com.au and then design, decorate and illuminate your home ready for the May 22 launch. As the official Stay At Home rules on social distancing continue to be updated, James Breko has this piece of advice for people joining in the #DIYVivid fun, “The beauty of #DIYVivid is there’s no need to travel to be part of the action. Get your street, your neighbours or your apartment block involved and connect together safely at home.”
